My school does not have a spelling program that we should follow, but I have been using some spelling sheets handed down to me from a teacher who got them from another teacher who…. It is a tic-tac-toe type homework board that students complete each week and in theory they turn their work in on Fridays. Parents like the homework because it gives them choices of activities to complete, but I feel like it is hard to keep track of who is studying for the test when some of the activities have nothing to turn in.
So I’ve been working this week on creating a spelling work packet for my students to use for morning work during the week. There is a possibility I may be asked to loop again next year so I wanted to make the packet something I could use this near and next with minimal effort to update the file. What I have created is a MS Word document set up as a mail merge with an MS Excel spreadsheet. I just enter the word lists for the year into the spreadsheet and hit merge and voila. I have 8 different activities to choose from for students to practice their spelling words during the week.
