In my class every week we have a “Fun Friday” activity for students who have completed all their classwork during the week. It is only about 20 minutes long, but my students look forward to it every week. This week I was inspired by a craft my son brought home from school. I tried to find a pattern for it online, but couldn’t so I made my own. Now I’m sharing it with you.
What you need to do is cut out a star tracer for each small group of students. I have loaded up a free one for you to use if you do not already have one as I did. For the lesson, I first demonstrated how to make a figure from the star by tracing it on the white board with plain black marker, and then sketching a person into the star shape. I intentionally made mine simplistic so that my students would be more inspired to make the picture their own. And, boy did they, Here are some pictures of the beauties they came up with:
The whole project only took about 15-20 minutes to complete, and my students loved the opportunity to show their creativity. If this had not been a quickie Fun Friday Activity I would have had students write stories about their star people.
If you would like to try this craft out with your kiddos you can grab a pattern here:
The adorable snowman font is something I cannot take credit for. It is freeware and can be found here if you are interested.
