Hopefully this never happens to you….
Wait! What?!?!?! Panic!!!!!!
My Unzipped Download on TPT Is Empty! What Happened?
No, don’t panic. I’ve got you covered!
When I received this Q&A I must admit, I panicked a bit. I tried downloading the file on my computer. No problem. I downloaded the file on my hubby’s computer. No problem. My daughter’s. No problem. My mother’s work computer. No problem. My son’s computer…. PROBLEM!!!! Everyone else I know has a Mac, but my son’s is a Window’s computer.
On my son’s windows computer the file downloads and un zipped to a jumble of files which are all empty.
After much research I discovered that this is a known issue with window’s computers attempting to unzip files zipped on a mac. Apparently they don’t play well together, and the issue does not occur the other way around. Fortunately there is a solution and I will walk you through it right now. Imagine you have purchased my new Dolch Sight Words Go Fish Game. (Seriously, go right ahead if you like. lol 😉 ) and you download it onto your window’s computer. You may get lucky (apparently) and have it unzip perfectly well, but if you are unlucky and you get a jumble of empty files, don’t worry. Rest assured, the file is there. To unzip it go back the the purchase page, and find the little link that we usually ignore that says, “how to unzip files” and click on it.
Teachers Pay Teachers has a page here with recommendations for alternate programs to use to unzip your file. Look down to the bottom of the page where they suggest programs you can use.
I chose to use unzip-online because I don’t like adding to much software to my son’s computer, and it worked PERFECTLY! Problem solved.
If this brief tutorial has been helpful to you, please share the love and send the link to anyone you know who can make use of it. 🙂
Have a great day!
