Ok…. so they caught me off guard. I was taking a moment to file some papers while my students had their inside recess, when one of my cute students came and asked me something about using a book, and I just said yes. I must admit I wasn’t really listening. I was thinking, “hey… books during recess… AWESOME!!!!!.”But a few minutes later came the reporters…. you know, the ones who are always up on what everyone else is doing wrong around them…
“Mrs. Carr they are using your books.”
“Mmm hmmm… yes I told them they could read.” <<happily filings and listening to the sounds of children playing nicely with each other.>>
“No Mrs. Carr, they are playing with YOUR books! The ones we read with in guided reading.”
Then I sprinted across the room… well at least 6 feet away.. to save my precious book sets from the hands of careless students doing who knows what with the books I had not checked out to them. This is what I saw:
These 3 sweeties were holding a guided reading group. Literally. So cute!!!
The one in the middle was leading the lesson. She had them read the books while she listened in and made mock notes. Then she gave each of the others some feedback on what she heard them do well, and parts she wanted them to re-read. Then she even gave the others a reading response writing assignment. The 2 “students” were dutifully answering every question the they were being sooooooo good. I only had to stop them from taking the books back to their seats for re-reading before “tomorrow’s lesson.” LOL – I may have to set aside a couple of sets of books to check out during recess for playing school. 🙂
