Hello everyone, today I wanted to write to you about a cute and fun end of year activity for grades k-1. If you go to the website http://www.paintfont.com you can print out alphabet and number sheets for students to write their letters and numbers on in their best handwriting. Then you can scan in the children’s handwriting and the website turns it into a font. You can name the font (child’s name) is (age). Save the fonts and either email them to the children’s parents as an end of the year gift, or load them onto thumb drives to send home as an end of year gift. I have my own children do this for me every year and it is a really sweet memory.
My daughter at age 5 wrote like this:
I just love how she felt the need to illustrate the letters she wrote to make her font prettier.
My son at age 7 wrote like this:
I most likely will never use their fonts for anything, but in this day and age of everything being digital, it is a really great way to hang onto that memory. The parents of your students I’m sure will love this project too. Just remember, do not use your students fonts in anything for commercial use. Profiting from the work of your students would be ethically wrong, whether is is legally so or not.
However fonts you make yourself can be used in commercial products. So have a great time playing with that site!
